About Friendship Ark Homes

The L'Arche Model
Friendship Ark Homes is based on the L'Arche model of residential support for individuals with intellectual disabilities, particularly those with challenging behaviors who must otherwise leave the county to receive services.

L'Arche is an international federation of family-like homes and communities in which individuals with intellectual disabilities share life with their live-in assistants in environments that nurture the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of each individual.

The L'Arche movement began in 1964, when Canadian philosopher Jean Vanier invited two men with intellectual disabilities to live with him in Trosly-Breuil, France. Vanier's simple, yet profound, act of Christian love has touched men and women everywhere. Today, there are more than 120 L'Arche communities in 30 countries.
