Executive Director

Job Description

General: The Executive Director is responsible for and empowered to carry out the day-to-day operation of Friendship Ark Homes, and for the health, safety, and well being of each Core Member and Assistant in the Friendship Ark Homes community. The Director is responsible for overseeing personnel, budget, administrative and service activities and for ensuring compliance with all governmental regulations and organizational policies. In addition, the Director shall incorporate and foster Christian values throughout the Friendship Ark Homes community.

Reports To: Board of Directors

Supervises: All employees and volunteers associated with Friendship Ark Homes.

Responsibilities

  • Board Participation: Serves as a non-voting Board member and assists in Board decision making.
  • Personnel: Develops and implements personnel policies and procedures.
  • Budget: Develops and monitors the budget.
  • Stewardship of Resources: Manages the physical and fiscal assets of Friendship Ark Homes and Core Members.
  • Supervisory: Directs the hiring, training, termination and oversight of staff, volunteers, and consultants. Appointment of consultants shall be made with Board approval.
  • Admission/Discharge: Coordinates all admissions and discharges.
  • Individual Program Development: Oversees the writing and monitoring of the Core Member Service Plans.
  • Core Member Mentoring: Ensures that staff spends quality time on a regular basis in Friendship Ark Homes' home(s) to establish communication and trust with each Core Member.
  • Board Staff Communication: Acts as liaison between the Board and the staff.
  • Governmental Liaison: Maintains knowledge of Medicaid HCBS and other regulations and acts as liaison and advocate between Friendship Ark Homes, state, county, city government officials and the public sector.
  • Marketing and Development: Works with the Board to promote awareness and fundraising on behalf of Friendship Ark Homes.
  • Spiritual Leadership: Provides leadership to further the understanding and practice of the Christian life and L'Arche philosophy among core members, assistants, and other members of the community.
  • Other: Other duties as assigned.
  • Classification:  This position requires tasks that routinely involve a potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate measures is required for every health care provider in this position.

    Qualifications: (The Board of Directors may dismiss any of the following at its discretion.)

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, religious studies, health, human service or related field. Two years experience may be substituted for one year of education.

    Experience: Must meet one of the following conditions:

    • Is a qualified mental retardation professional;
    • Has at least one year experience in an administrative capacity with the Medicaid HCBS program or a health care facility (e.g. RCF, ICF/MR, nursing facility);
    • Has L'Arche experience as an executive director or assistant.

    Personal Qualities: Has a demonstrated commitment to meeting spiritual as well as other needs of persons with disabilities. Is entrepreneurial, well organized, exemplifies good leadership skills, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, is able to plan and supervise the work of others, and has strong oral and written communication skills.

    Physical Demands: This person will be in good health, free from communicable diseases, and able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
